We are acoustic beings, but do we know it?

Contemporary Western culture is dominated by visual stimuli, with an abundance of visual impressions constantly streaming towards us. To avoid this impact, a word often used in advertising, we have learnt to ignore them and ‘not let them in’.

It is more difficult to ignore acoustic stimuli. Consciously, we can ignore bothersome sounds, but unconsciously noise pollution, with aggressive sounds or staccato hammering advertisements, leads to higher stress levels, and triggers or reinforces illnesses and stress reactions, such as burnout, aggressiveness and much more.
